Youth Exchange Experience - Smartphone or Compass in Lithuania (English)

Labas! Hello! Salut! ¡Hola! Здравейте!

In the beginning of July I was a part of  an awesome experience that took place in capital city of Lithuania, in Vilnius.

During this time (from 1's of July to 8 of July) I had the chance to meet new people from four diffrent countries: Lithuania, Spain, Bulgaria and also Romania.

The experience was a great opportunity to come in touch with the other people's culture, to to identify myself as a part of my Romanian culture. I've also noticed that we as a group of young people are  similar to each other, even we came from diffrent parts of Europe.

As a group we have learned to function through different games, role-plays, brainstorming and also the big challenge was to go for camping together.

Lighting the fire, hiking and map orientation sounds to be easy in the comfort of our homes, but in the forest or in the middle of nowhere, trust me, it can be a real challenge! Another big challenge was to work as a group while we were hiking, building tents or other usual stuff like washing the dishes together.

For me it was a great oportunity to learn how to show myself in relation with the other people, to challange my limits, to change my habbits and to help the group to work properly.

I realised that every member of the group is a very important part of it, but I also realised that the group doesn't need us as much as we neeed the group. As much as we need to be part of our community.

The main theme of the Youth Exchange was the ecology, so we had to think more about our actions in the daily life and see how our actions would affect the environment.

Together we found ways to change our habbits that would help the enviroment a little bit more. We found that small things like taking shorter sowers, waste sorting, reuse of used items for other purposes, to carry reusable bags instead of buying a new one would help us to be more ecologically friendly.

You can see some of the photos I've took during the experience, Lithuania has great landscapes:

On the way to Vilnius and back home we mannaged to see two beautiful cities in Poland.

  1. Can you tell us a bit more about the program? Besides the amazing experience, what does it require from you (especially finacially). And how can you apply?

    1. You don't have to pay for the exchange, this opportunity is free and it is addressed to young people (between 18 and 30 years old).
The youth exchanges cand have lots of topics like: human rights, arts, ecology etc. You can apply when an organisation from Romania want to participate in an exchange and asks for young people - here is an example> https://www.facebook.com/ASCOINT/ . This one is located in Oradea.
Also, you can find more information about YouthExhanges here: https://ec.europa.eu/programmes/erasmus-plus/opportunities/individuals/young-people/youth-exchanges_en

      Enjoy!
